Sunday Safari

Heat advisories

do not seem to bother the bugs.

The Black Swallowtail has been laying eggs
 in the fennel all summer.

Her caterpillars have eaten the leaves.

I am so pleased.

Tiger Swallowtails come to the Cosmos
a few times each day.
I watch the Tigers

spread pollen.

The relationship between the bugs
and plants is amazing.

The Hummingbird Clearwing Moth

is my bug of the month in August.

I am in awe

every time I see one.

The world of the insects

captivates me.

When I am out with the bugs,
 with the Orange Sulphurs,

Eastern Tailed Blues,

Gray Hairstreaks or

Lacewings I feel connected.
I love the plants with their bugs.

It is the way of nature

that inspires me and teaches me.

I cannot be outside in the heat
 for very long anymore.

I spend a few minutes each day with the bugs
 than come inside to read,

to study,

to plan for cooler days.

I am thinking about October decorating.

I shall be a Mad Scientist this
Halloween.

I am saving jars

planning ways to use the tall
grasses of summer.

Happy Sunday Safari.

Dear Sherry, The photographs of the butterflies and clearwings are so very beautiful. I am in awe of your work.....

I love the clearwings, they are exquisite creatures. I do not know how you manage to capture them flying. I struggle.....I normally end up with a ghastly blur.

The caterpillars are amazing....the colours....and such a sweet face. I love to see my leaves eaten........something is eating the silver birch leaves, I am hoping it is purple hairstreak caterpillars, the betula is a host plant.

Crop circles are amazing. I have seen them in the fields, they always fascinate me.

I have been reading about ancient plants today........the book fits perfectly with unicorn. Many of my plantings this year, have come from unicorn, it has inspired me.

A beautiful post........amazing captures, amazing you.

We had a little Sunday safari, too and I hope you'll come by to see if I've identified a tri colored heron! I love your big fat caterpillars...and that hummingbird moth is just the neatest thing I've ever seen! Hugs! ♥

Sherry, Sherry, Sherry, your photography skills are AWEsome. I have had to look at these photos over and over. I am so glad you are still doing the Sunday Safari. It is such fun to see what bugs are in your garden. Try to stay cool.

Ms. Sherry, in your opinion, are there any bad bugs? ;)

Hi TC!
So good to hear from you!
The only bad bug is one that gets into my computer!
I do love the bugs.

I've been enjoying the same butterflies here as you, Sherry, but I've yet to see a hummingbird moth--what a beautiful creature! I agree the butterflies seem to enjoy the heat of the day, but like you, I prefer to stay inside and read in the hot afternoons.

Looking forward to seeing what concoctions you cook up as a mad scientist this fall:)
