Sunday Safari

The North wind brought cooler temperatures and a bit of rain.
We were able to go on a hike.
We went to the Arboretum.

Always a delight to see the female
Tiger Swallowtail in her black form.

Her mate was also flying about.

The light was perfect.

Many butterflies were out.

The cicadas were singing.

Monarchs

and Orange Sulphurs were near the ponds.

We had come to see
the Ebony Jewelwings.

There are many

 other Dragonflies and Damselflies

that are very beautiful,

but the Ebony Jewelwings
are my favorite.
I sat with them this afternoon.
I had Jewelwing time.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Dear Sherry, what an absolute delight. To see so many tiny creatures in one place must be amazing. I always think tropical when I see the colours of your butterflies and jewelwings.
A tropical paradise.....

I am glad that the temperatures have dropped and that you may get some relief from the heat.

It is autumnal here......a NNW is blowing and causing much movement in the garden.......

I can't wait until that cooler weather gets here. It should get here soon since it was at your house this weekend. Beautiful shots Sherry. I know you enjoyed getting out in cooler weather. The dragonflies are abundant right now. We saw lots of butterflies while out birding Sunday. They were flitting around so much I couldn't get pictures. Your patience paid off.

You have so many beautiful butterflies in North America. These are all new to me, and gorgeous.

Sherry, several of your butterflies have the sun coming through their wings, and I love it. I am torn between the black one in the first photo, and the monarch as my favourite!

The Ebony Jewelwings are so beautiful! And I thank you for identifying them for me, Sherry. I think this was the damselfly that followed me around one day earlier this summer. I haven't seen many dragonflies or damselflies recently--it's been much too dry. But, oh, do I have the butterflies! I hope to get a post up by the end of the week with some of my photos, though they can't compare with yours:) I've been trying to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and get some work done in the garden, but I seem to keep getting distracted by the butterflies:)
