As the temperatures rise
and the drought continues
I am impressed how nature adjusts.
Butterflies seek shade
and the large leafed plants
fold their leaves.
Mating continues
and the small butterflies
seem to be less skittish.
The Missouri River is lower than normal.
The Corps of Engineers is
releasing water upstream.
Keeping barge traffic operating is a priority.
After our early morning watering
we came inside.
We watched the finale ride
into Paris.
Congratulations to Bradley Wiggins.
Congratulations Great Britain.
This is your week.
The fourth round was very exciting. The course in Lancashire, England is remarkable. I knitted while marveling at the sand traps! On these amazing hot and dry days I work at finding ways to enjoy the afternoons. Thank goodness for air conditioning and knitting. It is 105 degrees in the shade.
I am looking forward to watching the summer Olympics.
Opening celebrations are next Friday.
I have been following the the torch relay.
The Olympic Flame is in London! Such fun.
I remember when in 1984, the Olympic Torch
was on its relay west across the U.S. to California.
A runner came down the street in front of my house
with the Torch burning brightly.
Family and friends gathered on my front lawn.
It was very exciting.
There is barely a breeze this afternoon.
Very low humidity. The air is dry.
I will water again. The gardens depend on me in the heat
and drought. The seedlings seem to call out for water.
I put a sunhat up on the porch wall.
It seemed to be the perfect end of July decoration.
The shootings in Colorado have touched my heart.
We are one.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Will we survive this drought? I am sure we will with our modern conveniences but it is a struggle. Your photos are beautiful as ever. We watched the Open and some of the Tour. Fun to have something interesting to watch. Happy Sunday Safari to you too.
Dear Sherry,
I was hoping to visit and to read that the rains had arrived.
You are coping well, in the most difficult of times.
Nature does cope, she always finds a way.
Tour de France was wonderful to watch, we are very proud this day. It has been a long time coming.
How wonderful that the torch went along your road.......a moment to remember. The torch came to Leeds Castle, which is 15 minutes from my home.
I shed a tear for those who have lost their loved ones. A very sad day for the US.
Namaste
We don't watch golf or racing, but we've been watching a lot of baseball here, and I've been sewing and reading more than usual. It's simply too hot to do much that requires expending a lot of energy. I am really looking forward to the Olympics, though; how exciting to have had a torch carrier run past your house!
Your post is a lovely reminder of the simple joys of life; I wish that everyone could take time to smell a flower or watch a butterfly...I think the world would be a better place if we all did more of this. Peace and harmony to you, too, Sherry.
A lovely, most thoughtful post dear Sherry. I am, as always in awe of your lovely photos and of course your beautiful butterflies and the flower is so pretty!
So sorry you are still sizzling in the heat. We have some glorious weather at last, I'm not sure how long it will last but I am enjoying every mment of it :-)
Bradley Wiggins did us proud, something to celebrate and lift our spirits! One of my blogging friends has a son of eighteen, with a life limiting condition who is an accomplished composer having been forced to give up playing the harp due to diminishing muscle strength, who proudly carried the Olympic torch on his wheel chair on Friday! His family were so very proud of him.
I was filled with sadness at the senseless loss of life in Colorado. The terror and suffering is unimaginable...
Wishing you cooler temperatures and sending peaceful thoughts your way Sherry :-)
