Sunday Safari

We drove southeast, about 100 miles, to visit the Paint Brush Prairie.
Only half of one percent of all the prairie is still with us.
Across the Mid-west prairie conservation is of vital interest.

This habitat is home to many endangered bugs and birds.

It was cool and cloudy.

The Common Wood Nymphs were in abundance.

The Indogo Buntings flew about.
I think they were as interested in us as we were in them.

As the day wore on the clouds began to disispate.

The sun came out for a little while.

We stopped at the Botanical Gardens on the way home.
I love watching the Bee Flies.

This one is Bombylius Major.
A lovely bug!

The Halloween Pennant

and the Great Spreadwing were flying.
I am looking for the Clearwings.
I am looking for the Hummingbird Moths.
Perhaps next week I will find them.
There is room for the Prairie and the Gardens.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Lovely safari Sherry.....pretty bird and bugs.....
It is good to hear that some of the natural prarie remains....so important, when habitat is in decline.....the bugs need these areas to survive.....

I have had a hummingbird hawk moth feeding on the patio...it is so quick, I only get a blur, everytime I take a photograph.....

Wonderful photos Sherry. You captured the Halloween pendant very well. It is difficult to get their colors to shine through. It sounds like you had a great day out.

As always, Sherry, you have such interesting finds on your safaris. I have never seen a Halloween Pennant before--what a beauty! I enjoy visiting prairie restoration sights; although little of the original prairie remains, at least there are more and more attempts to reproduce it in small areas. They certainly do attract all kinds of wildlife.

I love your safari Sherry! How do you bribe all those creatures to pose for your camera?!

What fun! And so clear are your photos!! You must have had a delightful day! Thank you for teaching me names of some bugs and butterflies. I'd never have known them.
I too am happy that some of the natural prarie remains, but it's so little!
Happy Sunday Safari,
