Sunday Safari

It has been a week since I sat outside with the birds.

It has been a week since the sun was out.
I was happy to see the moon.

The indoor tulips are in full bloom.

I have many pots of them.
They are cheerful.
I miss the bugs.

I am on an inner safari.
I am hunting my myths.

I have gathered my books.

I am reading

I am learning.

I am celebrating the Asian way.

Many of my traditions come from the Greek and Roman stories
yet I have fallen in love
with the dragon and the phoenix.

I was born in the year of the Water Dragon.

My birth year is called
"Dragon in the Rain"

The imagination of the myths fills my soul
with contentment.

My husband also was born in the year of the Water Dragon.

These stories are part of the puzzle of who we are.

The Dragon is the yang
the Phoenix the yin.

I look for the Phoenix.

I look for the Dragon.

I have been reading about painting on silk.
I am gathering silk.

The snows have melted.

Seed catologs are arriving.

We are talking about the gardens.

We are planning for another growing season.

I hung cherry blossom lanterns in the Ficus tree.

The clouds have come back.
These are gray January days.
I am dreaming of Dragons
and Spring rain.

Happy Sunday Safari.

Interesting post, I really enjoyed it. I haven't read much on myths, but your post sparks my interest.
Do try silk painting, I enjoyed it several years ago, made a few scarves.

Spent some time scrollng through your ABC Wednesdays and Sunday Safari. I love them, Sherry! Your mythology, tulips, and birds will keep your mind off the winter cold. We have been under mostly clouds for a month. Unusually cold or unusually warm.

ah, tulips! they are not bad for a winter's day. I'm more of a daffodil girl in the winter.

Love your dragons, One more dragon book you need to read, The Library Dragon by Carmen Agra Deedy. it's a kids book but it's a cute story.

Silk painting? How interesting! You have lots of good things to keep you busy. I love mythology too. Your books look fascinating. We had our first sunny day today in ages! I was up and about early, shopping for grandkids birthdays, buying more flowers for my windowsill.
January is slipping away.

The tulips are gorgeous!

Thanks for leaving your comment today! I can't imagine braving the cold to get pictures of the birds. One of these days I'll have to dress in warm layers and try it. I need more practice time on birds in flight too. Thanks for your photography suggestion. It's been too rainy, dark and gloomy here for much bird photography.

It's been a least a week since the sun has shone here as well, Sherry. But it looks like you are making the most of these gray days. Your tulips are lovely and so cheery. And this is a good time to catch up on reading. I used to teach a unit on Greek and Roman mythology to my students and really enjoyed it. I know less about other cultures' mythologies, but it's interesting to compare them and see so many similarities. To me, that is an affirmation that we are all one people with the same human needs and feelings. Enjoy your books!

Isn't it wonderful when the sun finally comes out? And when the seed catalogs arrive in the mail? :)

I haven't done any painting in a few years, but the silk painting sounds very interesting -- if you do any silk painting please post pictures!

Dear Sherry....so much to read and take in. I am inspired by your learning.

Dragons and pheonix....you enter my world my friend. I do not have your knowledge but from a small child they held much fascination for me. At school I was in the house of the Unicorn......my friend was the house of pheonix.

The tulips are wonderful and speak of spring......soon to flower in our gardens. I miss the bees bugs and butterflies. My world is less without them. I wait.......

I am reading many books on our connection with nature and the world around us. I realise I am very much an earth child.......

It is a good study for these cold gray days of winter. I will be interested to see your silk painting. Will we see dragons and phoenix ?

Myths and legends are fascinating - especially the insights they give into the unconscious mind of humanity. Dragons are irresistible - at least to me!

Legends are fascinating! I see no dragons in you though, Sherry. x

Sherry, Your combination of images and words tell a powerful story. We've been inundated with rain for way more than a week - I've lost count of the days! Truly it's a great time to delve into our interior lives. I've been spending hours archiving photos from the 90's on. It's entertaining to revisit family, friends, pets, and places. Mythology is such a fascinating subject - we can learn so many lessons.

Seed catalogs are a great idea right now too - I think I'll send for some!

Very interesting post... I always enjoy your Safaris. Our house bugs (Asian beetles) are still alive and well, and seem quite happy. Would be happy to share any of them as a matter of fact ;-) Looks like you've found some wonderful ways to make this brutal cold much more enjoyable & bearable. Blessings to you & yours. -Tammy

Supposedly, tonight's moon will be the biggest and brightest of the year...Native Americans would call this moon the Wolf moon, because as the full moon happened to fall on the point at which the moon is closest ot the earth, making it bright, the wolves would be out in full force.
