In the olde way tonight is Twelfth Night.
Different faces greet us in the morning.
These are winter days.
I celebrate this season.
My birthday irises scent the house.
I have a new box for January keepsakes.
A new spot to save the charming pieces of paper that come into my life.
The penguins are about.
They are so very good.
It is bitterly cold.
Even the sunlight seems frozen.
I bundle up when I go out to feed the birds.
They wait.
They watch.
They are beautiful.
May you be warm.
May you enjoy this twelfth night.
May you enjoy this twelfth night.

Dear Sherry....your home is full of colour and pretty trinkets....tku for sharing the little pieces that are precious to you. I love your thinking.....
The birds are struggling here....we are in the middle of an artic blast....they are saying it will last another ten days. Our winters are usually wet....I do not like this change and worry about the wildlife, especially my bees.
The heron came to the garden today....he was looking for fish....all the local ponds are frozen. I felt very sad for him....
The fire is burning in the hearth.....the house is warm...it is bitterly cold outside.....
Sherry, You always come up with the most delicious combinations. Love the haiku in the book re the sun - our sun actually peeped out for about 10 minutes this morning! And your birds are just precious. Such a day brightener - thank you!
Thank you so much for this beautiful paean to Twelfth Night! I also thoroughly enjoyed to once again stroll through your birds' paradise. So many beautiful birds, so exquisitely captured.
My very best wishes for a Happy New Year and belated birthday wishes too! :-)
What a wonderful post! I love the Emerson quote, and when you say "Even the sunlight seems frozen" - I can relate! Your bird shots are fabulous.
Beautiful! I need a box of January things to put around the house. I always feel a loss when I put the Christmas things away. Enjoy your pretty birds! Hope they all do well during this bitter cold weather.
Happy Twelfth Night Sherry. I hope you are toasty sitting in your livingroom reading haiku admiring your pretties. What happy faces to see daily. Cheers.
