Sunday safari

Robin comes for raisins.

He knows me now.

I watched the Cardinals do seed giving.

She has her mate.

The rains are off and on. I go out inbetween showers.
I want to greet each moment of Spring.
I have waited for her.

The crocus and the daffodiles are waiting for sunnier days.

The parade of flowers has begun.
It is a slow unfolding this year.

The clover is just beginning to leaf out.

Drizzle sent me back inside this afternoon.

Back to reading and listening to music.
These last days of Winter have been wet and chilly.

I am surrounded by books.

I am enjoying poems
and folklore.
The drawings are beautiful.

I close my eyes and see dream gardens.

I am learning

while I dream.

I fly kites

in my mind

and in my house.

There are some fantastic kites made.

Gorgeous

sky art

and wall hangings.

The photography of Tom Vezo
inspires me.

Happy Sunday safari.

Bird Report

There are a pair of White-throated Sparrows
that come to the deck for seed.
I make a pile of seed for them in a brass tray
since they like to scratch for their food.

The Yellow-shafted Flicker
has found the suet on the deck.
The Flickers are very shy.
He has a mate too.

The Cedar Waxwings have returned.

I am so excited to see them!
This male House Finch is very bright red.
He hangs around with the male Cardinals!
Spring is coming very quietly.
Rain has washed the snows away.

I am smitten with this book.
I am smitten with the dawn.

Sunday Safari

I went hunting for signs of Spring.

Robins were enjoying the freshly
raked vegetable garden.

The buds on the Dogwood are swelling.

One little bee
enjoyed the few crocus that are in bloom.

I wondered where Little Bee would go after gathering the pollen
from these few blooms.

I went inside to see if I had any blooms Little Bee
might enjoy.

The Four Leaf Clovers are sprouting.
No Little Bee food there.
The white minature Roses are in bloom.
They are pretty but not very good bee food.

I saw the honey comb in my honey pot.

Little Bee liked this treat!
Spring is wakening.
Soon I will have lots of blooms for Little Bee
and her hive mates.
Happy Sunday Safari.
Happy early Spring days.

Go Fly A Kite!

The wind was perfect,
a south-easterly breeze, 12-15 mph with gusts up to 18 mph.

We took our four kites out
for their first flight of the season.

The temperature warmed to 58 degrees.

We fly the classic diamond kites.

We flew our kites for two hours.

Time flew by.

Back home I watched as the crocus opened.
I watched a sweet Honey Bee gather pollen.
Kites, blooms and bees are the best!

First Crocus

A crocus bloomed today.

She is my first flower of the season.

The birds are singing.

The crows fly over twice a day now.

A few piles of snow remain.
The Grackles have returned.

These are magical days,
Spring is awakening.

I want to spend every minute of daylight outside.

I took my books and my tea to the deck.

I dreamed of kites.
Soon I will fly my kite.
Soon I will hear the kite's song.

We are beginning the garden clean up.

We saw a sweet bee!
Goodbye Winter.

In like a cold lamb

March came in like a cold little lamb.
It was mostly cloudy today with a slight breeze out of the north.
I shivered when I went to feed the birds.

I sowed a few seeds this afternoon.

I will have clover and grass growing in pots
in the kitchen
and lettuce on the window sill.

I cleaned the spent tulip bulbs out of the copper
planter box and sowed the lettuce.

I will press clover for March cards.

I am dreaming of flying kites.

The temperatures are to rise for the wekend.
Maybe the wind will be just right to fly kites.
My kites are ready to take to the sky.
~Happy March~
