Tiger Swallowtail

The female Tiger Swallowtail
in her black dress

is my favorite butterfly.

If I was to be a butterfly

I would want to be her.

I am so happy to see her.

She is such an elegant creature! Thank you, too, for the photos of the hummingbird. The hummingbirds have just come to our area, but unfortunately I always seem to be without my camera when he comes to feed!
I just read your post on Saturday wishing a happy birthday to your daughter. She is a very lucky woman to have such a caring mother; this was very touching and beautifully written.

Hi Sherry,
I've been so inspired by your butterfly photos that I went out and planted some parsley seeds in the yard the other day, hoping to attract the - monarchs? I usually do have a good amount of butterflies in my garden, but my goal this summer is to truly pay attention to the species, where they lay their eggs, what they like to eat, and so on! I can't wait to go and buy my first butterfly book!
You really are such an inspiration to me to live more aware of my surroundings! Thank you and I so look forward to reading your posts...

Dear Deb,
The male is fantastic too in his yellow and black. There is a female in yellow and black too.
I took lots of pictures last year but I am wild about this butterfly.
I am looking at the walls in my office and thinking about a redo... a gallery of butterflies would suite me!

Dear Rose,
You are welcome for the photos. I do enjoy taking them and sharing them!
I miss my daughter very much. Events like birthdays, really remind me how far away she is. I am glad she followed her heart and moved to a city where she wanted to live rather than stay close to where her parents are! Very hard to do!
I want her to live a life of "no regrets" if that is possible.
Thank you for your kind words.
Namaste,
Sherry

Dear Laura,
Your comment just sent my heart flying! I hope my photos are inspiring...that is what they are suppose to do!!! Thank you!
The parsley will be used by the Black Swallowtails. It as a host plant for their caterpillars. Since it is a bi-annual you may want to plant every year so the Black Swallowtails have some each year. They also like dill and fennel. All three plants are pretty in the garden too.
A butterfly book will be great. Some tell the host and nectar plants each variety likes. Getting to know the different varieties is very fun.
I live in the city with a small garden and I too get lots of different butterflies. Be sure and stay organic. The butterflies are senitive to chemicals.
If I was president there would be butterfly gardens all over the U.S.of A.
I am excited to see your gardens and your butterflies.
Thank you Laura for letting me know my pictures did good!

Dear Cheryl,
The light was beginning to fade when I took these pictures. I hope to take some pictures of her in full sunlight.
Knowing the female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, black variation, has survived another winter is very exciting.
She is beautiful.
