Play Time!

My neighbor's old growth Elm is releasing it's leaves this morning. The Fire bush released it's leaves over night.
Time to play in the leaves.
A skipper came by early. I wonder when Red Admiral will come over or maybe the Eastern Comma will stop by. I am looking for the Buckeyes!
A gorgeous Indian Summer day.
I want to go play.

Cleaning and scrubbing can wait for cold, rainy days.
If you come looking for me I will be out with the leaves.

Evening-Morning

The sunset last night was a light show!
This morning's dance equally as beautiful.

Butterfly Breaks

I took a break from picking up leaves to enjoy the Red Admiral. In-between and underneath some mums have survived the night time frosts.
I leave the mums all Winter. I will hand pick the leaves out of the mum bushes.
In the Spring I cut them back.

Leaves

I have a machine that picks up the leaves and puts them in a bucket!

Once I begin cleaning the leaves out of the ivy I must finish.

I use the Thorndale Ivy for December decorating. Raking the leaves tears them up!

I will wait to trim the ivy on the trellis until December.

We Voted

It is Election Day. I went to the polls. My husband went early this morning.
My old campaign buttons and parade flags are gathered together. We will watch some election results this evening.

Fog

I awoke to fog. Quickly I dressed and grabbed my coffee.
I wanted to be outside in the fog, feeling a cloud wrapped around me.
We seldom have foggy mornings.

Beyond The Cornucopia

November is about preparing for winter at our house. The squirrel represents this for me. Thus the squirrel is a November motif.

I was pleased when I found this wood carving.

My grandmother's lapel pin is too old to wear. It looks nice on the necklace stand on my dresser.
As I shop for November I think of all the different aspects of the month. I think beyond Thanksgiving.

I read about the squirrel this morning in "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews.
The squirrel reminds us to prepare.

The Cornucopia

The Cornucopia is an ancient symbol of abundance.

I have many about in November. On the deck I have them filled with gourds.
The front porch has a large Horn of Plenty ready for the treasures we find when we walk.
Inside, some hold potpourri
others have garden produce.

Some Harvest Cones are empty, waiting for Thanksgiving Day cinnamon rolls.

Full Beaver Moon

After a warm Indian Summer day

it seems fitting tonight's Moon would be the Full Beaver Moon.

Clouds came in at sunset. When we walked I was concerned we would not see the full moon. As the moon rose the clouds began to break apart.
Moon beams danced on the deck! Time for a moon bath.

Gold!

My husband has a machine that picks up the leaves and puts them in a bag. November leaves are treaures for us. An important raw material for our black gold, our dirt. Mixed with organic material the leaves cook.
Our compost is our mulch! After the ground freezes we will mulch.
I cleaned the Moon Garden and planted bulbs.
All the beds will be tidied up. We have begun Autumn clean up!

November Friends

The Question Mark was back in the red and yellow mums today. A moth joined her. Such a lovely butterfly.
I need a moth field guide. This one is remarkable.
An orange sulpher found a dandelion.

Full Frost Moon

The Full Frost Moon is tomorrow morning 8:59 am cst. It is also known as the Full Beaver Moon. I count tonight and tomorrow night as Full Moon times.
The clouds helped to give the frost. Tomorrow night I will take my more traditional moon shots. Tonight I will bundle up a bit and sit with the moon.

Lost Routine

I awoke this morning and realized I had forgotten my routine. I am not sure when it happened. Maybe during Hummingbird days when I would sit on the deck and wait for the Hummingbirds or watch the sunflowers open.
Perhaps when I was surrounded by Monarchs and Swallowtails is when I forgot my moisturizer and my cuticle cream.
This morning I began again. It is a new day, new page, new month.
I started over.

A Question Mark butterfly caught my eye in the red and yellow mums. I have been wanting to see one for a long time.
I forgot what it was I was doing. Time stood still. Once again I was dreaming.

Day at the Spa!

I spent the day at the spa. I am still under the weather. Hopefully after all the work we did today I will be better tomorrow!

Up and Running!

October is all packed up, house is cleaned and November is up and all is decorated! Rattan Turkey is in the entry. It is from the 1920's. The little log cabin incense burners are special. One was my Grandmother's and one was my Mother's.
I am so very pleased to have November all up! Did not take as long as I expected it to. I still have some linens to iron; some tweaking to do.

Days of the Dead

When I was a little girl today was called "All Souls Day". It was a magical day for me. My Mother and I would walk to church. She told me by saying a prayer today in church a soul would be released and sent to heaven. She told me each time we entered the church and knelt down and said a prayer another soul would be released! I went in and out lots. I felt powerful at age four! I found this old card in my Mother's papers.
I took a few of my grandmother's forks and bent them and made stands for books and small pictures. "Morning and Night Watches" is from 1906. Small inspirational writings for each morning and night for 31 days.
I have framed the memorial cards of family members that have died. I do like these crystal and mirrored frames. Inside the cabinet they look pretty. The sun reflects and sends rainbows of light throughout the living room.
I found a box that looks as if it is made of bone. I put rosemary in it as my offering to those that have gone before.

All Saints Day

Happy November!

I am packing October up. My husband brought up the bins last night. I have many October bins! Once all is packed up I will clean and unpack November!
Then I will decorate! Red and brown and yellow are my November colors.

Hats and gloves go in the orange and black hat box. Zip-zap-zip! That was easy.
We opened our treat from our daughter last night. These are beautiful chocolates! We each chose one. Delicious too. We will eat them!
I have scheduled one week to get every thing cleaned and put away. November is a fun month. Lots of gratitude. Each day I begin my day with "I am thankful for ......"
Today I am thankful for my children. As I do my work I think of all the wonderful, happy times we have shared. I stop every so often and send my blessings.
In November I study the culture of the American Indian. The original people of where I live. I celebrate the way they honor Mother Earth and Father sky.
