Butterflies and Hummingbirds

The Butterflies and Hummingbirds

really keep my spirits up.

I have been struggling to be excited
about gardening.
When I take a break and watch the Hummers and the Butterflies
I forget all about gardening.

The Question Mark

The Question Mark Butterfly
came in right before dusk.
I had not seen one yet this year.
This butterfly is about 2 1/2 inches across.
They feed on rotting fruit.

A Few Herbs

The Bergamot is beginning to bloom.
I have two stands.
This one is commonly known as scarlet monarda.
The sage has rebounded nicely,
as has the oregano.
The feverfew is in bloom.

Each bed has its herb.
I am working on creating the edible landscape.
The rabbits enjoy my efforts.

oops...

My husband is helping our son today.
He has not seen my "art" project.
So lovely and
fragrant,
but it could be a huge mess, very soon.

Am I here?
Did it work?
Did Corner survive into the millennium?

999

This could be it!
I don't know.

Blogger allows 999 posts.
Could be they will begin to drop off older posts.
Could be they will hold Corner as is.
I don't know.
If Corner folds her sweet wings know you will find me Walking in Beauty.
Thank you for your kind encouragements.

998

The Mockingbird chicks are out of the nest!

The rabbits are eating the lettuce.

This is my 998th post.
I have one more post.
Something happens after 999.
I do not know what it will be.
We will see.

Monarch and a Sunflower

The birds planted sunflowers this year.

I am glad they did.

Magic in the air

I went outside

to blow some bubbles,

to watch the clouds roll by,

when a Monarch came to call.
I like bubbles and butterflies.

A House Rock

My son brought me a rock.
A house rock.

This was my Blue Moon gift.
I fixed a cup of flower tea in my tea posy.
I sat with my rock.
I wanted to get to know her.
Rock likes to sit in my lap.
Today I took my rock outside.
The clouds had parted.
I wanted to see my rock in the sun.

My son had left me information about my rock.
My rock is a turquoise amazonite.
It is soothing.
It is beautiful.

Saturday stories

The Peony Poppies opened this morning.
The Moon Glow Coreopsis hedge will bloom now until September.
It is food for the bees and the butterflies.
It is deer resistant.
My husband watched a Doe this morning walk into the garden.
She looked at the green beans and went on.
The white apothecary roses are in full bloom.
These are the roses I use for my syrups and rose water.
The little chick-a-dees were out this morning.
They were with the Nuthatches and Tufted Titmice.

It is partly cloudy today.

Hummer

The female Hummingbird
likes the feeder that is in the Kumquat tree.

I lowered the feeder so if she wanted to sit and feed she could.
She seemed to like it.
As the summer progresses she will be very used to me.

The Kumquat tree is in a pot about two feet from my deck chair.
I listened tonight as she chattered.
I do not know Hummingbird speak but I want to learn.

These photos are for Chris. She lives in England where the Ruby-throated Hummingbird does not come for the summer.

Garden Blooms

The tomatoes are blooming.

It will be four to five weeks,
if all goes well,
before I will pick our first ripe tomato.

The native, Missouri, columbine is in bloom.
Not a showy columbine.
One can only find it in the woods.
The highway department sprays the road ways.
The wild columbine and the bittersweet are almost gone.
The lambs ear is in bloom.
It is a herb.
I don't harvest it.
I let it grow so I can pat its soft petals.

The poppies are still in bloom.
Baby bunny eats the petals when they fall.

Tufted Titmouse

I am excited to see the Titmouse.
A pair came today.
My bird book says they take over former woodpecker holes for nesting.
They are year round residents in my area.
As long as I am outside, the little birds have a chance at the big feeders.
I do have a small peanut feeder up high by my office window, only little birds can get to.
I have seen the tufted Titmouse many times now.
I hope it will stay around for winter.

It's June!

It is time for Mermaids

and Seahorses

and Hummingbirds!
