Periwinkle and a bee!

The sun is shining this afternoon.
A strong breeze is blowing out of the south.

All of my crocuses are in bloom.
I was hoping for a fun bug.
House flies never seem very fun!

I walked down the street in my neighborhood.
My neighbor's periwinkle is in bloom.

While I was admiring this charming
ground cover in flew a bee!

"Hello, bee!"
First bee of the season.
Spring is here.

I love the crocus. I laughed to see the periwinkle. They are generally treated as weeds here, & pulled out! Pretty little flowers though, & the bees obviously love them!

Welcome back! Great shots! I still have snow here and more due in the next day or so. I'm anxious to see bees and/or color - birds are even lying low.

My spring is not being a wild woman, it was about 20 when I got up. Maybe next week, it will get above 40 and stay there,

Dear Meggie,
LOL! As long as the bees love the periwinkle so do I! I was thinking I might plant some as a ground cover for a hedge of Spice Bushes I have near my white pines in front. The early bloom is so pretty. I love the color too.
I was so very excited to see my first bee of the season.

Dear Sue,
Thank you. I am glad to be home. I hope to get over soon. I am still catching up here.
Seeing the bee was so fun!
I had gone shopping earlier in the day and did not get to walk until late afternoon. I was coming up the hill when I saw the periwinkle. I stop for any and all flowers!
Soon the snow must stop! I bet you are very tired of it. We had a few snow showers yesterday. They were strange as it was sunny and snowing! Cold this morning, 25 degrees. It did warm up some this afternoon. Seeing the first bee was a joy.
You will have spring soon too!
Stay warm,
Sherry

Dear Pat,
Spring is here, she is just being very timid this year.
Hope the floods did not include your area. I heard St. Louis had flooding.
Soon you also will have bees and sunshine and lots and lots of flowers,
Sherry

Dear Cathy,
It is so hard to wait! It was cold this morning at my house too but by mid-afternoon we were in the
50's.
Each day now a new surprise.
I am waiting until april first to clean flower beds. They are full of leaves.
My Spring is very timid this year,
no wild woman for me either.

Sherry,

Well, finally, you have spring. I'm so happy for you. Soon the butterflies will be visiting - stay tuned!

We are wearing heavy coats today. Tonight we'll have a freeze. I hope it isn't too harmful.

Whooo Hoooo...the first bugs of the season. That little bee doesn't realize it can't get into that periwinkle blossom. Ha..funny to see. I didn't find anything outside but a few more crocus. It was too cold and windy.

It looks as if spring is really buzzing at your place. Here too.

Dear Mary,
Finally is right! I have been patient~ seeing a bee was seeing hope in action.
I do love the bees.
My leave blankets are still on all the beds. Our nights are also still well below freezing.
Hope your freeze did not harm any tender blooms.
Happy, hoppy spring!

Dear Lisa,
I was tickled with the bee too. Hungry bee!
LOL
I love the bugs!!!
Flowers also look better to me when they have a bug or two...
Very soon I will be outside in my gardens. A couple more weeks and I can begin to remove the leaf blankets. I do treasure each day of spring and your friendship!

Dear Marvin,
Seeing all of your wildflowers has inspired me!
I plan to go walking this afternoon in the little woods near my house.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Dear Tom,
Spring is always a delight.
Last year she came flying in so early. Everything in my gardens was a month ahead of regular bloom time. By the first of April deep freeze took most of the blooms and thus most of the berries and fruit.
I am enjoying the slow and deliberate spring this year. I want to see each 1st of the season.

Dear Cheryl,
I love bees! Seeing the first bee of the season is a joy only another bee lover like yourself can understand.
Years ago I had a skirt and sweater set in periwinkle. When my outfit came upstairs to my closet from its winter storage I always knew spring was just around the corner. Even if snow was on the ground I knew soon I would be wearing my periwinkles. I called my friend every year and announced, "The Periwinkles have migrated!" When the outfit no longer was my style I let it go. My friend has other interests now and I rarely see her.
I long for a periwinkle outfit that can migrate. I have a visual, something flowing and in silk... a pretty dress and sweater...oh and a hat...and shoes...cute little flats...hummm a Spring outfit..perhaps a bag and a scarf and a shawl...
I think I am inspired.
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Deb,
Soon, dear heart, your bees will buzz...the snows will melt and you will have the sweet smells of spring. I shall hold bees and blooms near to my heart for you...
Stay warm and inspired, April is just around the corner.

Congratulations on your first bee of 2008 :-) I love the way they bury their heads in flowers and become drunk on the nectar. Here's to many many more bees this summer!

Dear Chris,
So exciting but this was not Mr. Bumbles!
I do hope I make friends with a bumble bee this year.
I am pleased Spring finally came. She is slow and deliberate this year.
Here's to bees for you too.
Cheers,
Sherry
