Dragons

A 15 mph, south-easterly wind came up this afternoon.
We took the big kites out.

From March until October
the Dragonfly kite and the Butterfly kite
hang on the wall in the stairwell.
Their kite string and tails are ready to go.

Last week we bought a Dragon kite.

Today was his first flight.

The winds were perfect for him to sail
as far as his string would reach.

When a 23 mph gust came up
I let all the string out
so Butterfly could wiggled her tails.

A Turkey Vulture came to check out
who was flying in his sky.

The big kites required hands on flying,
no staking or tricks today.

I had so much fun.
Dragon kite is hanging in the travel room,
ready for a fly with only a minutes notice.

How fun!! I love the kites - they truly are the most gorgeous kites I've ever seen. Haven't flown a kite since our son (now almost 28) was about 8 or 9. We really used to enjoy that. Thanks for sharing your fun! -Tammy

So much color, so much fun. I bet your heart was soaring as high as the kites.

Have you read the book 'Kite Runner'? It is a sad/happy book. Interesting story.

The kites are very beautiful. Lucky one wasn't a Pigeon Kkite otherwise the Turkey vulture might have been tempted!

Hola Sherry,
What a fun post!
I've been told that there are a few places to flight kites here, so I'm going to try it later on in the year :)

What fun! Maybe next year, when our grandson is 3, we'll get a kite and take him somewhere to fly it.

I have been busy with a kitchen remodel. Spring has taken its time, but appears to be here now. I hope to get some gardening in this week.

Happy spring!

I forgot to say how much I enjoyed your photos! Your kites are beautiful, and at first I thought the eagle was going to be one, too.

Sherry, Nothing says Spring like kite flying and you captured your day perfectly. The dragon fly looks real, and the juxtaposition of the buzzard is very cool. We're never too old to play are we? Loved this post!
