We went to Powell Gardens
for our Sunday safari.
It is about 50 miles east of our house.
Their Flax is in full bloom.for our Sunday safari.

The Sour Grass is blooming.
For the Eastern Tailed-Blue it is a treat.
She promised to put it back.
Red Kale is beautiful in bloom and is called a "super food".
We enjoy the leaves in our stir fry.
Wild Strawberries are pretty when the Pearl Crescents
are nectaring.
Painted Ladies, Orange Sulphurs,
I will be planting lots of chives.
Nice for my salads and for the butterflies.
The Variegated Fritillary
enjoyed the pots planted with lettuces and pansies.
We watched Muskrats
and Black Swallowtails in the wild areas.

That Black Swallowtail on Indian Paintbrush is really a great image! Enjoyed the rest too, but that one is very special.
My dear Sherry.....this is how I dream my garden will be one day....well I can dream can't I?
So many butterflies....just like a beautiful painting. So much colour and movement.
I plan to plant more chives this year......alongside them will be your marigolds. They are around four inches high now and looking very healthy. At the moment they are in the greenhouse, too cold outside.
The colour of the flax is wonderful. Sadly the farmers here have grown rape this year. Whilst the bright yellow blooms colour the countryside, the pollen plays havoc with my eyes and throat.

What a fantastic array of butterflies! I've seen only a few Painted Ladies and Red Admirals flying about occasionally here so far this spring. I didn't realize they liked chives; mine are already blooming, so perhaps I'll have a few visitors soon. And thanks for the reminder about the kale--I need to get mine planted!

That looks a lovely place for your Sunday safari - what a lot of beautiful butterflies you managed to see, and to photograph.
The muskrat is rather cute - I've never seen one before - I had to google it to find out more.
