The Baltimore Orioles come to the deck.
The birds are watching each other
and learning. We watched the Mockingbirds try out the oranges
and a Robin tried the grapes.
A male Baltimore Oriole has found the nut feeders.
He seems to "think" about how to remove a nut. The Cardinals are also learning about fruit.
An Orchard Oriole was sipping from the blooms
of the Weigela.
I encourage them to feed on the ground with the Doves.
The birds are wet.
The little ones are so cute. The Hummingbirds circle the house feeding on the Fuchsia
in the window boxes and hanging baskets in the front
and the Weigela near the back deck.
I am listening to music,
reading and writing.
I am learning too.
We hope to do some tide pooling while on vacation.
I want to see bacteria
in its natural habitat.
I also want to do some star gazing
while we are far away from city lights.
I am inside today looking out.
It is wet and cold!
Happy Sunday Safari.

It is wet and cold here too. Your photos capture the day perfectly. I am getting excited about your trip too. I hope you take copious notes and photos to share with us.
Dear Sherry,
Poor birds look so miserable. Wet and cold is not a good mix when the birds are feeding their young.
Your photographs always tell a story.
Your trip will be amazing. So much to see and do. Rock pools are fun....something I enjoyed as a small child. Grandfather would take me to the beach and with him I would go on a voyage of discovery.
I have no street lighting here. I star gaze when the night is free from clouds. So many stars........
Lovely safari....always a pleasure to share Sunday with you. Hope you enjoyed your coco.....and the sun joins you on the deck tomorrow......
Wonderful photos despite the rain, Sherry. Such beautiful birds but they do look a little fed up with it and who can blame them? I thought the little bird above the Hummingbird almost looked like it was holding an umbrella over its head :)
I also enjoyed your previous post, the Baltimore Orioles are stunning!
I have never seen better photos of birds in rain - they are stunning, Q! I hope you have as many adventures on your travels west as I'm having! (Also, blue skies!)
each bird photo is wonderful, I love seeing them in the rain. I wish you a wonderful trip, may you experience all the things you are dreaming of!
Q! Your birds are soaked!!!!
You think she would hold a umbrella over their heads while they ate. LOL!
Those birds are so wet! Beautiful photos. I especially like the ones of the female Oriole and the Grackle, and of course the hummingbird. We're finally getting some rain here too.
It's raining here, too, Sherry--a lovely, gentle rain, but I had hoped to work in the garden today! I love the photo of the bird with the little umbrella above him:) We have seen some new birds in our yard this spring, and I'm consulting my book on Illinois birds to identify them. I wish they would just stay in one place long enough for me to compare them with the photos:)
I forgot to add to have a fun and safe trip! I missed your post about going West--will you be visiting family as well?
Your wet birds look funny although I hope they don't get cold - that'd be not funny at all!
It's raining here too btw but it's good - we had some dry days and I worried if the birds had enough water to drink - now they sure do!
Great photos of the birds. Nice post.
Lovely photos as always. Aren't we glad the sun is shining today?! -Tammy
They all look so soggy and pitiful!
;-)
I worry for them when the weather turns bad so early in the breeding season...
It seems you are having your April showers in May, just like us :-) Lovely pics, Sherry. I am so pleased you enjoying your birds.
This is true poetry! I love your photos and the captions. What is better than seeing nature at its best.
Sherry, I thought your daughter lived in Oregon, but I couldn't remember for sure. Have you visited the Japanese Garden in Portland? If you haven't, it's next to the Rose Garden in Washington Park and definitely a "must see"! I didn't get time to see it this trip, but saw it last August. I did visit the Classical Chinese Garden downtown, though, which is also so beautiful. Have a wonderful trip!
Lovely rainy day photos! We spotted our first hummingbird on Sunday - so exciting ♥
