In Like a Lioness

March blew in cold and wet.
She brought the sweetness of courting,

moisture for the Narcissus,

and wind to sweep the leaves.

Happy St. David's Day! "Do the little things".

The only birds I've seen courting like this, are Cardinals around here. It is precious.

But I've never taken such a photo.

Dear Mari-Nanci,
I enjoyed watching these two Purple Finches.
So sweet. I have not seen the Cardinals do this. I will keep an eye for their courtship seed giving.
When ever I am able to take behavior photos I am pleased! Mostly the birds eat, drink and fly about. Sometimes they will perch up.
Spring, time to nest up.

Is it too late to enter another picture in the photo contest Q? Your "courting" photo is the most precious one yet! Gorgeous as always!

Hi Deb,
Thank you! It is fun I must say!
Those birds! They are delightful.
Now that it is mating time I hope to see nest building too.
Ah.. the joys of Spring.

Beautiful courting pic. I have never seen courting birds do this, only parents feeding their young. It is really sweet. Do the birds court for life?

Dear Chris,
I do not know if the Purple Finches mate for life or not. The Cardinals do and they are Finches. I will do some research and see what I can find out.
I love the seed giving right at the feeder!
I am watching for more mating rituals. The chick-a-dees fly around together, one chases the other. Very cute too.
It is always fun to see what Mother Nature has for me each day.
I awake each morning excited.
Bird songs,
