Windy

A strong southern wind
is blowing the leaves.
Winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow.

I set up a few more serving trays.

I set up a few more water bowls.

The birds are my guests for Thanksgiving.

I invited them to stay all winter.

Great shots of birds "hanging on" and preparing for the winter storm that's on the way. We've got the same south wind and forecast, just twelve hours or so behind you.

Are the birds getting winter feathers or just ruffled? I have moved into my winter coat today. It is dark, wet and cold here. Winter as it should be is reasuring.

Hi Marvin,
From the look of the storm moving in, cold air and rain mixed with snow could actually happen! Stay warm! I think ice and snow should hold off until at least December.
I worry about ice storms. We have been through some rather terrible ones.

Hi Chris,
The birds are just being blown by the wind! My winter coat is at the ready. I do not like ice! It is so hard on the trees. Thank goodness most of the leaves are being blown off the trees today. If we do get moisture maybe it will be just a cold rain. We need rain!
I think Winter starts in December!
Stay warm and dry.

Those lucky birds to be having Thanksgiving with you. I am sure with your Home Cooking they will be delighted to stay the winter.

The best Carolina Wren and Junco photos I HAVE EVER SEEN. The Stokes' need to be introduced to you, Sherry, my dear.

Dear Lisa,
I do not know what I would do with out the birds! They keep me going all winter. I miss the flowers and the butterflies very much when it is cold.
I do provide heated water for the birds too. They get fruit trays as well.
My cooking days are almost over. I like soup. I find I do heat food up some but I am going more and more towards raw. I like leaves and seeds and nuts...bird food mostly I guess. An apple for a snack is nice. It is true but sounds rather strange. I have just gone to the birds! LOL
My husband doesn't mind. He likes the birds too and enjoys our simple suppers.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Sherry

Dear Mary,
Thank you! I thought this series turned out nice. Little Carolina Wren is so cute! He stayed around most of the day today getting seed and nuts fron the trays. Lots of Sparrows also to dodge around. Plus Cooper's Hawk flies through the yard two or three times a day. Teakettle just scoots under the deck until the coast is clear.
Juncos are tough to photoograph! They have such dark eyes and the light always looks strange on their white breasts. I was pleased with the ones I took today. There were six Juncos on the deck so I had a chance to work with them a little bit. As winter comes I hope the birds will be less afraid of me. I hope they become so comfortable that I will be able to really show their personality. Each bird is so very different.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if my photos ever ended up in a field guide. WOW, that would be ever so nice. I have thought about doing a backyard bird and butterfly id book some day. The problem is it would be the birds and butterflies in my backyard. LOL
Thank you for your compliments. They mean the world to me.

Dear Barbara,
Once the birds get used to me being outside they come right up to the deck. Not really to see me but that is where the food and water is! Some of the birds will become very friendly and I will be able to get close up photos. I find whenever there is a weather events, rain, snow or wind, the birds are less afraid of me. I think they are hungry!
