Anticipation

I checked the Hummingbird spring migration map.
I saw Hummingbirds were reported north of me.
I normally put out my feeders on the 15th of April.
Maybe some Hummers came in with the last storm from the south!

It was fun getting everything out and ready.

When I set out the hummingbird food I also begin the Oriole food.
They come about the same time as the Hummers.

I had bought the oranges and the grape jelly a few weeks ago!

I still am not 100% better but getting ready for the Hummers and the Orioles was so much fun I forgot I did not feel well!
The sun was out for part of the day and although it only warmed to 53 degrees it felt much warmer.
Sitting in the sun waiting for Hummingbirds is a nice way to rest.

What lovely feeders Sherry. We do not have hummingbirds, it must be so magical seeing them for the first time.
I have only ever seen one in South Africa, Stellenbosche gardens, they were exquisite. How lucky you are.
Feel better soon.

Dear Cheryl,
The Ruby Throated Hummingbirds come to my gardens every year. By Autumn I have developed a rather nice relationship with a few of them. They are very beautiful! Hopefully I will get a few nice pictures of them again this year.
Thank you for feel better wishes.
I am working on it!

We have our Hummingbird feeder out as well. The squirrels have been interested in it too :-} There's little in the garden that doesn't interest them :-}! Your feeder is beautiful with the umbrella.

If I was a hummer or an Oriole I would be stopping in at Q's Corner for a respite. What a great set up you have. I can't wait for the birds to return. There has been a sighting of Hummingbirds in IN too. It won't be long now.

I understand your anticipation and can't wait for their return!

Dear Deb,
The little umbrella is an ant guard. I fill it with water and the ants cannot get in to the sugar water. The Chick-a-dees love the little cups for drinks!
I put one of the Oriole Fedders up by the Hummingbird feeder for now. I am thinking about getting another feeding station. I have two, but could use one just for Hummingbirds!
Just thinking right now.
I hope to see pictures of your Hummers too. They are incredible birds.

Dear Lisa,
Do you feed the Hummingbirds? I would love to have enough natural food for them but I do not. One of my neighbor's has a trumpet vine that she has trained and trimmed to be like a tree. It is very beautiful and the Hummingbirds love it! I saw at least a dozen zipping in and out when I stopped by one summer morning last year.
I would love to grow a vine like that.
The Orioles are very beautiful too. Last year I had an Orchard Oriole here. My first! They do like grape jelly!

Dear Tom,
I think I saw on the map some were already in New York!
I hope they find you feeders soon too.
Once the Hummers are back I kind of settle into a routine...feed the hummers, watch the hummers, feed the hummers...more grape jelly!

I'm glad your project helped you forget about not feeling well. A little that is. As long as you continued to basically rest. :-)

Dear Mari-Nanci,
I learned this morning I have some sort of stomach virus! My doctor thinks I am faring much better than many. I am still able to move around. I am having the tummy gurgles and cramps but no temp today!
Getting ready for the Hummers and the Orioles was very fun! Looking out into the backyard this morning watching it rain and seeing the feeders just made me feel so happy. I get lots of enjoyment out of each aspect of spring! The anticipation is very fun.

You are so well prepared! I wish you Orioles and hummers real soon, Sherry. They will love it at the Sherry Spa.

Dear Mary,
Spring has unfolded very slowly this year. We still are having lows in the low 30's. The last two weeks have been cold and wet. I guess if I had to be under the weather the last two weeks was the right time since I could not be outside very much anyway! I am feeling much better this morning.
I am wondering if I will see any of the Spring migration. Last year Rose-breated Grosbeaks were here for almost two months! I so hope to see the Orioles and the Hummers soon. I am ready!
