Dear Chris,
Thank you! I think of you often when I am out with the butterflies. They do get to know you after awhile. They are more interested in the nectar than being afraid. I move rather slowly so as not to startle them. When it is cooler out I do hope I can do some "art shots" as it is I have to take what I get! The filters and the sun shades help with the bright sun.
Thank you for your enthusiasm! I will get back to birds this winter.
For now, these are my "Butterfly Days".

Hi Mon@rch,
My husband likes the Buckeyes too.
He will enjoy the slide show I have for him tonight as I was able to get a few "nice" Buckeye photos.
I am so smitten with the butterflies today. They are jewels in the garden.

Sherry - just beautiful (as usual). :). This is the first time I have ever noticed that the monarch's body looks like it has white freckles.

Dear Mary C,
The Monarch's body is white speckled! I bet I have a photo that shows that better than this one. The Black Swallowtail's body is also white speckled. It is one ways I id it. Like the birds some of the butterflies are rather difficult for me to id. The Skippers are very similiar as are the Hairstreaks. Sometimes photos look different than the actual butterfly, lighting makes a huge difference. Also a butterfly's color fades as it ages, like the feathers of the birds. Since I began photographing the butterflies I have learned so much!
Getting to know all about the butterflies is a lifetime of learning! I am just getting started too!

I like the buckeye - a winged painting. Beautiful photos again and quite a learning experience. I thought a butterfly was a butterfly was a butterfly but I am learning!

Dear Tumblewords,
I liked the way the grass came out a soft green for the Buckeye.
I think in my area there are over 400 different species of butterflies, plus there are the moths!! I am rather smitten with the butterflies! I still love the birds but for some reason I am head over heels for the the butterflies.
