Next

I awoke to a transformed world.
The rain had changed to snow.
The winds had sifted to the north.

The snow is wet and heavy.
It has coved all the little seed dishes.

Many Cardinals are coming to the hanging feeders.

They are taking turns.

I need to set up a queue!

Hi Tom.
It is days like today I wish I had a video camera. It is amazing!
I counted 36 Cardinals at the feeders and waiting to come in!
In and out, crazy... I just hope there are no collisions. There are plenty of other birds too. The front feeders seem to be the favorite spot for the Purple Finches and all the woodpeckers. The Juncos and Doves are happy on the ground. The House Sparrows are rather pushy, but the Cardinals are holding their own (as long as I am outside). The Wrens are the cutest and the Nuthatches wait ever so patiently for the backyard nut feeder. Snowy days are huge bird days! I am glad it is Bird Count. Big numbers at my house.
Are you counting this weekend?

Absolutely stunning again. I did the bird count in January. Numbers were good but like you I feed the birds, and that without a doubt makes a difference.

It is crazy warm here today. We had rain this a.m. now the sun is out and it is 60f. However the wind is howling around the corner of the house.

I wanted to count...

Dear Cheryl,
I am such a poster lately!
Lots of photos. I post when I download! Some days I download five or six times...
You are so kind to read and look at my pictures. Thank you.
In England your bird count is in January. I did not know that. It is important for backyard birders to participate in these counts. It is a great way to know how the bird populations are doing. It seems rather elementary, loss of habitat would change populations. As more awareness comes perhaps people will be inclined to care for the wild life. Maybe they will learn how to live in harmony with the birds and the bugs and each other. I hope so.

Dear Lisa,
Weather makes a huge difference at my feeders. The wind is out of the northwest now and so strong. The birds are struggling!
I think it would be nice to have a seasonal count.

Dear Mari-Nanci,
Thank you.
I hope to be home with the birds this week. I would like to get the bedroom closet cleaned out!
That would be very joyful!
