Kansas Flint Hills

The Tallgrass Prairie
is a national treasure.

Spending time in the Flint Hills
is spending time
in an ancient
landscape.

I saw a glimpse of the vast prairie,
honored,
and respected.

I listened to the sounds of the Prairie:
the wind, the Cottonwood Trees,
Swainson's Hawk.

While my brother and I traveled
we listened to original songs performed
by Kansas Musicians.

Kanza, People of the wind.

I watched the light.
I found the subtle beauty
of each each moment.

I found my Prairie.
My own inner vastness,
honored and respected.

Love the photos. Sometimes I wish I could fly like a Northern Harrier over those tall prairie grasses undulating over the hills.

This looks like the landscape where I live... like Joni Mitchell, I too, am a prairie girl. Your photos are beautiful (as usual).

Wonderful photos and comments!

It has been very interesting to have a Google Alert for Blogs on "Kansas Flint Hills!"
Yours came up today!
We have a 22 county Flint Hills Tourism Coalition promoting visits to the Kansas Flint Hills – this is the website: http://www.kansasflinthills.travel/
Our web site is to promote the Kansas Flint Hills; and we were so happy to be in the 22 page color photo spread in National Geographic's April Issue on the Kansas Flint Hills, as a distinctive landscape.

We would appreciate a link from your site, to ours, if you are willing to do so. THANKS!
Best wishes!

Bill ;-)

Dear Saucy,
Being on the Prairie is fantastic.
I would like to do some fossil hunting. This land was once under a great sea and is full of fantastic fossils.
We both are Prairiie girls..

Beautiful photos Aunt Sherry! I saw my Dad this evening for our annual pumpkin craving contest (man does he ever talk a lot of trash) and he was telling me what a great time he had with you. Hope we will see over the holidays.

Love you
Laurie

Gosh it looks amazing - the colours look almost identical to up north here!

Dear Judy,
I have seen photos of Northern Australia and it does look very similiar. It also has the hills and grasses. Kansas does not have any Kangaroos! When the Bison were eliminated many animals left Kansas. I would like to visit Austrailia and New Zealand.

Dear Laurie,
Your Dad and I had a wonderful time! He is fun to travel with. He is so nice to stop for photos. I like poking around in little towns too.
The music he brought along was very fun. We sang and chatted and only became lost one time.
Love you too, Sweetheart,
Aunt Sherry
