Dear Sprite, This male Cardinal's crest is just folded down. The injured male is doing okay. At least I saw him yesterday after the bitter cold and he seemed to be doing fine without any head feathers. I have this idea that another bird helped keep his head warm during the cold nights. I visualize a female tucking his head under her wing. I saw a few "new" feathers seeming to be growing for him. Sort of like a red crew cut stubble. There are other injured birds about as well. Spring will make life easier for the birds and for the ladies that love them so! Thank you for checking on Mr. Cardinal. If I could I would have knitted him a wee hat. ~Q~ who worries about the birds, bugs and the critters

Dear Q~
Is this Mr. Cardinal that was injured? It looks like he is missing his plume (don't know what it is called), but otherwise he looks good.
Just wondering...
