A Tisket a tasket....

a little bamboo basket.

As I walk about the yard and the neighborhood
I often find treasures.
Feathers of all sorts and the Crows will leave shiny pretties.
I keep my yard gifts in a small bamboo basket on the front porch.
The Brown Thrasher is nesting again.
The Cardinals need to stay away.
I bought another field guide.
I need to be able to identify what Mother Nature has already planted in the flower beds for me.
So far I have identified 32 different wild flowers in my yard.
This is one of the stacks of everyday field guides I use.

Dear Mari-Nanci,
LOL!!
I do have many Field Guides!
Also many stacks of books.
I read them all the time. I look at the pictures.
I have also just begun to study the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest. We will travel there in August and I would like to know what I am looking at!
The Earth is full of so many beautiful wild flowers and birds and butterflies! I will never get to see them all but I will try.

Sherry - which book would you recommend for a beginner to identify butterflies and/or dragonflies? I'm looking for a good but basic book. I have so much to learn. :-)

Hi Mary C.,
I began with the Stokes Beginner's Guide to Butterflies. It is a small easy to use field. They also have a Dragonfly Guide. I like them and still use them. There are range maps so you can tell if the butterfly would be in your area. This year I did buy the field guide of Butterflies and Moths of Missouri. Your conservation department should have a butterfly guide for your state too.
I bought our daughter the butterfly guide for the Pacific Northwest when she moved to Portland. I will ask her if she likes it.
I also have so much to learn!
It is fun.

Oh the wonderful treasures you must have in your bamboo basket! When Kate & Alex were little we always carried a bag with us on our walks to gather found "treasures" & when they came home they would do 'nature collages' :-}. I still like to bring home "found treasures".

Dear Deb,
Found treasures are so fun.
Doing an art project with them is delightful.
I think a sculpture of found art would be nice for the garden. Now that I am walking twice a day I am finding all sorts of fun things.
