What I do

People ask me, "What are you doing?"

I tell them, "Birds and butterflies!"

It is what I do.

The hummningbird is especially beautiful! I've never seen on in real life. I put out a hummingbird feeder a few years ago but it filled with bugs. Ugh.

I saw a hummingbird late this afternoon visit a pot of wildflowers my husband planted weeks ago. I'm afraid the girls and I were a bit skeptical at the wisdom of planting a wildflower seed packet in pots on the deck instead of further out in the yard, but he insisted that it was a lovely thought.

Today, after seeing the hummingbird visit and have it lift my spirits, I no longer need convincing that he was right. :-)

Thanks, Sherry for taking the time to always have an encouraging, thoughtful word for me and my family. It means a lot. Thanks as well for the lovely visit I've had to your site tonight. Your site never fails to offer much to reflect on and enjoy.

Monarch would agree with me if I suggest you open a Flickr account. Photographers will arrive in flocks!

And what you do, Dear Q, you do SO WELL.

I hope you had rain?

Mary beat me to it. I was going to say YES, and you do it so well. We saw a wonderful variety of butterflies, and one hummingbird in Cuba last week, but my camera is not equal to the task, nor am I I'm afraid. Just not quick enough..!

Dear Saucy,
I am smitten with the female Ruby Throated Humminbird.
Head over heels in love with her!
Her mate is beautiful too but I seem to take photos of the female.
Ant guards do help with the bugs and almond extract on the flower will keep the bees away.
I put the feeders out in April and take them down in October. It takes awhile for the Hummers to find your feeder but once they do they will return year after year.
It is worth the wait.

Dear Mary,
Watching the Hummingbirds nectar from the flowers is so rewarding.
I love wild flowers. I think they are the most beautiful of all flowers. Perhaps you will also have butterflies.. another plus for wild flowers. I like the way your husband thinks!
You are so welcome. These have been stressful times for you.
I remember when my parents were ill and I was working and still had children at home.
Too much work for one person.
So happy you found some respite here.
Always I send my blessings.

Sherry

Dear Monarch,
Thank you. Being in love with birds and butterflies is being in love with joy!
Being able to do my passion is an everyday, "Thank you!"
You also are in work that is your passion. That is rewarding work for sure.
We both will keep on loving the birds and the bugs and the four legged.

Dear Mary,
My East Coast friend,
No rain! Washed the car so I am giving Mother Nature another day. I have 3 more vehicles and if I must I will wash all of them.
I cannot put enough city water down to make much difference. Keeping the seedlings and new planting alive is all I am hoping to do. They will not thrive without rain.
Oh dear, flocks of photographers....I guess I could make lettuce rollups and tomato sandwiches. I could charge admission!!! Would keep me in new lens and filters. Maybe while they waited on the butterflies they would like to be helpful and weed a bit. I have some painting projects they might be interested in.
My daughter has a Flicker account. She likes it. Very easy to use.
I will think about it.
"Corner" is my service.
Thanks Mary for always being supportive.

Sherry

Dear Sheila,
I think it is hard to get photos when the birds and bugs do not know you very well.
You would like the range of a telephoto lens but they can be heavy. Mine is 6 pounds with the long lens and shade guard on. My husband normally carries it for me when we are out hiking.
I am enjoying your Cuba photos. Such an interesting country.
I love the music!
Thank you. Nature is so beautiful it is a joy to record her.

Dear Sprite,
Thank you...
I guess I could tell people I am bringing awareness of the beauty in our own backyards...
I really just take pictures of that beauty..
I am not responsible for what happens after the photos are out there!
We do have wonderful friends all over the world that come and share their kind words and support.
I love them all.
Some have journals too. Their ways are lovely. I enjoy visiting them and seeing the world through their eyes.
