Breakfast with an Owl

A shadow of wings
the cawing of crows
a Great Horned Owl flew in.
High in the top of my neighbor's tree

he perched while the crows complained.
I was awed!
I have seen the Owls at twilight.
Never have I had breakfast with an Owl.

Wow! He could be mistaken for a cat :-) What a wonderful sight!

Last spring, a large-eared owl came to live in the big ivy-covered ash tree outside my bedroom window. He used to sit there all day, until I would try to get close for a photo. He went away in the late spring and didn't come again this year

sorry, not large-eared but long-eared owl. I had the wrong word. It's not ears anyway but feathers.

Dearest Q~

Awesome, indeed.

Was this owl dreaming of me, or did I indeed come to be?

Always watching over you...

Lovingly,

Dear Chris,
He does have that "cat look"!
His feathers were very peaked up.
I was beyond excited!!
He was rather far away too. I actually saw him first with the binoculars. I tried to get as close as I could. I was concerned if I tried to get any closer he would fly. The crows were very upset!
He has a mate and I hope one of these days we will see owlets!

I still remember the absolute awe of seeing an owl swoop down before us as we drove along a country road one night. It was truly magical.

How amazing to have one outside during the daytime to marvel at!

Hi Mary,
Having the Owls about is magical!
I see them every so often but it is too dark for photos. Having photos is very nice indeed.
After supper tonight my husband and I went for a bicycle ride in the cemetery. I almost crashed a couple of times gazing up in the trees.
Anytime we see an Owl we also are awed!

All your pictures are beautiful, but the owls caught my eyes, owls were my wifes favorites.
She passed away just over a year ago, but her love of owls will live forever. She left me with a house full of owls, a collection of over 400 different owl figureines, pictures, beer mugs, glasses, etc.

Thanks,
Jim
